    First Marines

Well I've finally managed to paint my first couple of marines and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for improvements. The last time I painted was about 15yrs ago when I wasn't even a teenager!

@Xpiotouopoc : You need ten posts under your belt before the forum lets you post any pictures. Go and introduce yourself, chat it up a bit, and try again.

    I can see them...so I'll comment.

These are great for first attempts...you've got the basics of highlighting down and those are great bases

and Xpiotouopoc, you can upload the images to an external host and display them here without the 10 post limit i think? Then we can all see them.

your best bet is to simply post in a couple threads and you'll hit the limit you need

Hmm seems so - I've also nearly finished my 3rd Marine so will post a pic of that one as well, seems to be coming along a bit smoother than the first 2...

They are very good for first marines. You have a good set of skills to develop from there. Keep it up! Good work on the eye lenses....I had epic trouble with those when I first started painting.

Is no longer waiting for the Necrontyr.

Interesting how you got the raised Ultramarines emblem on the Assault on Black Reach models. I'm assuming some green stuff skills?

Looking Good for a first time, Great result on the eye lenses and I know how hard they can be to get spot on.

However, the gold looks a bit solid, maybe paint a light coat of Shining Gold on then give it a wash of Gryphonne Sepia before highlighting with a mix of Shining Gold and Mithril Silver....gives it a more shiny look and not a solid block of colour

For some reason the gold seems to be a real weak spot, I can't seem to get a good mix between the darkening and lightening, I seem to end up darkening the whole thing with the wash or lightening it too much when I do the shining gold. Ironically as you stated it's a shining gold over a burnished gold with the Gryphonne sepia wash. Think probably need few more goes at it to get a good balance!

took me a while to get gold down, its a difficult colour to master, up there with white and yellow just keep at it and you'll soon learnt eh best way for you get a result you're happy with

Those look really good man! You have a far steadier hand than me! One thing i'll say though is you should thin the base paint down a bit more. Those guys would look much better without the textured base coat, which comes from using too thick a paint. Other than that, great start! You have a good looking painting career ahead of you

Yeah I think I had a slightly impatient approach of trying to cover in one coat, hence why the White on the shoulder guards is terrible! The 3rd Marine which is currently work in progress, I've tried to thin down the coats alot more, so with any luck this one will turn out a little better. Though saying that the pictures tend to magnify the issue, so will be interesting to see.

Very nice work, like it! Great quality.
