2012 Hobby Challenge Q1

Here we go, a new year and a new Hobby Challenge. For all you who have made 40k resolutions, why not use this to help yourself stay motivated?

• You have until the 16th of January to chop and change your challenge, after which the Hobby Challenge will be locked
• You get until the 31st of March to complete your challenge
• You may nominate any number of models/scenery/etc from any game system by any company, including ones you've started working on
• If you complete your challenge, a quote of your challenge and a picture of the completed models/terrain/etc will be posted in our new Challenge Completed Honor Roll thread.
• The next Hobby Challenge should run consecutively (ie begin nominations on April 1st, runs until June 31st). Yes, you can be featured in the Honor Roll thread more than once.
• We do, of course, thoroughly encourage you to maintain blogs. However, if you'd rather not, updates with pictures are more than welcome in this thread, or a link to the blog you are keeping track in.
• To receive a place in the Honor Roll, you must post a picture of your completed challenge before April 3rd.

Basically this is your challenge to get what you want out of the painting/modelling side of the hobby for the next 3 months. How hard you make your challenge is up to you (hopefully you will set yourselves worthy goals, but it's up to you to balance it against real life etc, by having the conditions loose, we hope to make this as inclusive as possible), the only "moderation" will be locking the challenge down and adding members to the Challenge Completed Honor Roll.

Nice-to-haves don't cause you to fail the challenge.

Well, I challenge myself to get my Brets built, including a pair of scratch built Trebuchets + get a few more marines painted for my BT's.

EDIT:Start to make my chainmail coif using 16 gauge butted and solid galvenized steel rings. (was unable to get any supplies this month, takes a while in my mini apartment to make the rings) (added a monolith and took out some scarabs and some warriors since I have never done a vehicle this large before)

If I fail:
d4c can pick my punishment in the form of a sig and avatar.

Ah, who am I kidding. If I get a full squad painted and start on the Caestus, This challenge will be successful!

Well, well, well, let's try it again, shouldn't we, my precious?

I (or we?), Omega (and precious), will try to paint the rest of my 500 point list of Dark Eldar, namly:

Finish the wyche squad of 9 models (half of them only need highlights, the rest is half finished)
Paint 1 (one) haemonculus
Paint 1 (one) raider for those wyches
Paint the fist squad of scourges (5 models)

It would be nice to have as much as possibly for my 750 point list which is as follows:

Paint one squad of kabalites (5 models)
Paint one venom as ride for the warriors
Paint one talos

If I fail to achieve the above list of models, I shall be punished by the member who finishes his/her challenge first in form of avatar-abuse (until the end of the next challenge) in whatever form he/she sees fitting *shudders*

Well I've been a member on here for a while now so I think I'll set myself my first challenge, however it will be an easy one to start with:

I Dave Robinson will Paint the following:

Complete my Ultramarines Predator
Complete my first Tactical squad
Build and Paint my Ultramarines Drop Pod


it would be nice to also:
Build and paint my first squad of Grey Knights

If I should fail I will wear a Leeds Utd badge as my avatar and include the famous "Marching On Together" in my signature..............this is an ultimate insult to me as im a Barnsley fan

Hmmm, seems I failed my last one, I should've gotten to painting while I was home, oh well.

I, Scythes, without the assistance of Sock Monkey (he's cute but he's not a great painter, needs more experience), shall complete the following this quarter:

1 x Trygon, fully painted
1 x Dreadfleet set, fully assembled and painted

There are numerous other things I would like to complete, but I'm not sure I'll be able to, but my like-to list is as follows:

12 x space marine bikers, painted
3 x attack bikes, painted
5 x terminators, painted
5 x MkIII Iron Armour marines, assembled and painted
5 x sternguard, painted
1 x chaos dreadnought, converted to loyalist, assembled, painted

Obviously my list is long so it's not all in the actual challenge. If I fail this challenge I shall allow the next poster to decide the fate of my avatar.

Assemble and paint three killa kans, one trukk. Paint one squad of 20 grots with two runtherds. Assemble and paint one SU-122 Russian tank destroyer to be a looted wagon. Paint one mob of 10 nobz. All to what I would consider a tabletop standard for my own game play. Paint a lobba and two grot crew. Assemble and paint a Big Mek, Weirdboy, a War Boss, and a Deff Dread.

Bonus Points: Assemble and paint a squad of 30 boyz or my 10 stormboyz mob. Flocking is optional but will be a bonus. I'm still undecided what kind of flocking theme I want to use. Assemble and paint two more lobba and crew to complete my big gunz unit, if they come in at the game store in time.

Consequences of Failure = Must construct an "I love space marines" banner for my ork army and use it in my games with my husband's space marines for three months of games. Oh yeah, I have to do 200 burpees without stopping except to vomit. But really, "failure is not an option."

Progress as of Jan 30th
Everything is primed and assembled except the big mek and the deff dread, which hasn't come in yet. The trukk is painted.

Progress as of Feb 1st
One Killa Kan is painted. Twenty grots are painted; still working on the two runtherds. Big Mek is primed but still in pieces. (Not too impressed with the so-called "Finecast" ... think I like regular plastic better.) Game store owner tells me the deff dread will be in this week. The lobba is painted though the two grot crew are only primed. I assembled and primed five of my ten stormboyz.

Progress as of Feb 6th
Finished painting the two grot crew for the lobba. Bought the deff dread, which finally came in at the game store. Weirdboy is assembled and primed. Other five stormboyz are assembled and primed.

Progress as of Feb 8th
One runtherd is finished. Deff Dread is assembled.

Progress as of Feb 12th
The second runtherd is finished, so the grots are completely done. Second Killa Kan is done. Big Mek with the giant, snotling-firing gun is done.

Progress as of Feb 21st
The third Killa Kan is done, so my unit of kanz is complete. Deff Dread is done. Two of my ten nobz are done. Only tasked myself to paint one lobba with crew but I painted two more to complete my unit of three lobbas for an upcoming game.

Progress as of Feb 28th
Five of my ten nobz are done. Ordered some forest green paint so I can finish the SU-122 looted wagon. So besides the nobz and wagon, all I have to complete is the warboss and the weirdboy (both of which are assembled) to successfully finish the challenge.

Progress as of Mar 12th
Five more nobz done, finishing the ten ork unit. I have more nobz I want to finish, but that is it on that for the challenge. So, now I have to finish my wagon, weirdboy, warboss and I'll be done!

Progress as of Mar 14th
SU-122 looted wagon is finished.

Progress as of Mar 21st
Warboss Hungry is done. Also got a bonus boy with a rokkit launcha done. All I need to finish now is the Weirdboy and I'll be done but for the pictures!

Progress as of Mar 26th
Weirdboy is done. Finished the bases on the warboss and the nobz. I'm going to try and finish all of the bases on the other pieces before the deadline to score the optional bonus points.

Progress as of Mar 31st
Everything is done and flocked - I went with sand because I didn't want to use anything green. Now to get the pictures taken and up no later than April 3rd to complete the challenge!

nice to have: buy and assemble at least 15 death company with bolters, at least a 'B' in English/Social studies, make a gaming club called men in hats, finish painting my furioso's arms
