    Noob ork questions.

So I have some old orks, and I'm getting an aobr set, so I'll have:
    5 Deffkoptas
    20 boyz-2 big shootas
    20 boyz-2 big shootas
    5 Nobz
    AOBR Warboss

I was just wondering if Ard boyz are troop choices?
How do you make a looted tank?
Should my next purchase be more nobz, and some 2 trukks? (And a codex lol)

i would think 5 nobs is all you need, you take a rhino or any transport and kit it out orky style. use it for transport or boomgun.

Yes, with a limit of one 'Ard Boyz mob per army. If using Imperial Armour rules, there is a special character that removes the 0-1 limit on 'Ard Boyz.

Take a non-Ork tank, then orkify it. There's no right or wrong way.

Codex first, then a box of Nobz. The box of Nobz isn't so much to have more Nobz themselves, but to have all the bits and weapons proper Nobz should get, such as a power klaw and a bosspole. Trukks, that depends on what kind of army you want to make. I would suggest any new players start with the armies listed on pages 82-85 of Codex: Orks and build up from there.

    Sour pretty much covered it.

IMO, if you want to keep your boyz in the 20 unit size, go with Wagons.

    Rollas on Wagons = Pain

Little question from me here, just adding on

Do wagons not count as heavy support if you take them as a transport? Or is it an upgrade thing such as the KK?

Also, is there a particular size that wagons must be? Because I'd love to stick my guys in them, but they're so damn expensive. Especially buying a deffrolla for each of them. So I'd love to just model some myself.

No, they count as dedicated transports, but you can take them as a heavy choice and just load up a burna/busta squad into an open topped one after the game starts if you want.

I made my first wagon out of a Land Raider, size is gonna very from wagon to wagon, but it should be close IMO.

Course I still use my old trukk and it is WAY smaller then the new one, no interest in buying a new one either.

Also, I made my Deff Rolla out of a toilet paper roll.

Codex: Orks, page 98. Only Nobz and Meganobz can take Battlewagons as dedicated transports. If you're using a Battlewagon or a Looted Wagon to transport Ork Boyz (or any other unit other than Nobz and Meganobz), it must be selected as part of your Heavy Support allotment.

If a transport vehicle is taken, but not taken as a dedicated transport, you don't have to wait until after the game begins to put a unit in it. Only dedicated transports have the limitation that only the unit for which the vehicle is purchased can start the game embarked.

Like others have said, you can use a rhino or whatever and "orkify" it. I'm in the middle of putting together an SU-122 (WWII Russian tank destroyer/mobile artillery) that is going to be a looted wagon. I have found that 1/48th scale tends to work a bit better for the most part if you are going to use a non-Warhammer model. The length and such are about right though bits like the guns usually are scaled to real life rather than over-sized like in Warhammer, which by my thinking isn't a big deal because guns and stuff are exactly the things to "orkify" by putting over-sized stuff on. 1/35th can also work (especially since orks like big stuff) but the vehicle hulls tend to be too long for my tastes.

Also, I've found that Tamiya brand models tend to hold up well for tabletop play rather than just for assembling and displaying. Some of the other cheaper kits are in my opinion a bit fragile to play with and are more for just display. The Tamiya brand also has the plus that some of their armor has die cast hulls, which gives the model a good bit of weight, which can be useful in tabletop play.

Good luck with your new vehicle.

Awesome, thanks for your help. I'm guessing that a looted wagon has the same transport capacity as a truk? I've also updated my models:
    Ork Warboss
    PK/Boss Pole?/Shoota <----- Aobr model
    20 boyz/Nob/pk
    20 boyz/Nob/pk
    Looted Wagon
    5 Deff Koptas
    5 Lootas/Mek/Kustom Mega Blaster

Isn't there a special rule on a warboss that will allow me to take nobs as a troop choice?

Yes. Yes there is. Codex: Orks, pages 96-97.

I thought this is how it worked as well, but someone argued in a game that troops can't be started inside a vehicle if it isn't a dedicated transport. I couldn't find a rule explicitly saying that you can't put troops in vehicles as part of deployment - would seem silly that you couldn't. I did find the rule on p. 67 that Sour is referring to in the little box titled "Dedicated Transports". I guess if I end up playing another game with this fellow I'll have to take the tact of "show me in the rules where it says you cannot" though I know he'll counter with "show me where it says you can". Or I guess I could put together an army specifically to play him that doesn't require troops being started in non-dedicated transports and look at it as his own personal house rule.

Try telling an Eldar player he can't start a game with a unit embarked on a Falcon and watch the rage commence.

EDIT: You could also check page 7 of the current FAQ, 4th question in the right column:

Q: Can a unit start the game embarked in a
    nondedicated transport vehicle? (p92)

A: Yes, as long as its unit type is allowed to embark
onto that vehicle and it does not exceed the transport

    capacity.

Great, thanks. I'm going to have to print out the FAQ's and put them in a notebook to take with me to games when I end up playing someone I've never gamed with before.
