    Purifiers with a librarian

Hi guys, I am new to 40k and am in the process of building up my first grey knights army. I have 2 5 man terminator squads and an 8 man paladin squad led by draigo at the moment. (you can have a look at these in the introduce yourself thread "hello all").
I am working on a dreadnought conversion just now (see painting section).

After this I am thinking of adding some purifiers. Is there any reason why the purifiers could not be joined by a librarian if he were wearing terminator armour?

Grey Knights, Grey Knights whatcha gonna do...? Whatcha gonna do when they come for you?

None at all. But when the Purifiers win Close Combat, they will not be able to run down their opponent's squad as models in Terminator Armour cannot perform a Sweeping Advance (and as the Librarian would be attached to the squad, the squad cannot leave him to do so as Independent Characters can only join or leave in their movement phase). Purifiers would be just fine on their own, but if you really want to be different, add a Brotherhood Champion.

Cheaphammer 40p: 2000 points of Marines as cheap as possible.
It'll be alright on the Knight - a slow refreshing of my original Grey Knight army.

Grey Knights don't go to heaven: they go to hell and regroup.

Thanks for the response. That clears things up a bit.

I was imagining the possibilities of a squad of purifiers all equipped with falcions were teamed with a librarian with quickening...

    Squad of 10.
    Initiative 10.
3 force weapon attacks each (4 in an assault)

40 force weapon attacks from the purifiers in total at initiative 10.

You might not need a sweeping advance after that, there would be nothing left!

    Thoughts?

    Argh! Falchions!

Nein. Most of them should be basic. They're expensive enough already and will die like any other Marine (easily). I'd suggest perhaps maximum two Halberds to get some I6 hits in and maximum two Hammers to tackle the big stuff (and remember that hammers only happen at 9/10 man unit). Cheaper, more versatile and could still benefit from the I10 (except the hammers).

It's tempting to go overboard with upgrades, but honestly: don't. Major mistake with GKs, it's all about boots on the board and sufficient upgrades to do the job.

about the only time falchions are prudent is when you have 10-15 points to spare and truely dont know where to put them. then i think its justified giving a model in your squad falchions.

im a little hypocritical though because i use two ten-man squads of terminators/paladins with at least one of every weapon (sans psilencer and warding stave). helps with wound allocation. but for any other unit, its not really a good idea. swords and halberds are a priority.

A model, perhaps. All of them? No. There's other, better options for them. Failchions are lame-ass wannabee Lightning Claws. Though however cool Nemesis Lightning Claws would be, I can see why they'd be too much.

For Terminators, stick with the free options as they're just the best ones.

When it comes to purifiers, are halberds not the same points cost as falchions? (No codex to hand)

I like falchions for certain things. I have a 6 man Interceptor Squad armed with them. They play well aginst low initiative, armoured, high wound targets like Carnifexs. 15 attacks on the charge, and a Justicar with a Damon Hammer, just in case. Nothing is perfect, but I can usually find a use for them.

I think this had pretty well run it's course with the whole lack of posting for about 2 months
