I would pick up at least one more hive guard, probably two to three for tank killing like shining said. Also, troops, in a swarm army like nids you can never have enough troops. After that look into heavy support units, a trygon is best for this role, and might as well pick up two while you're at it. Beyond that, um, maybe more warriors, a brood of three gets beat up kinda quick and possibly a hive tyrant and guards later on once your army is around 1500+.

The battleforce is a great way to expand on what you have. Would fill out most of the units you have, as Scyhes said, you can never have enough bodies.

Genestealers, hive gaurd are your best bet if your looking for competitive. a powerful troop choice That doesn't require a baby sitter and can Even trash landraiders If the dice are on your side. The other is an extremely cheap and effective ranged tank killer also for those hard land raiders.
Otherwise more termagaunts.

Yup, Stealers are only S4, +D6 armour pen, +d3 rending, that's only 13, so the best stealers can do is glance a landraider, and then only with +1S from adrenal glands. And Hive Guard guns are only S8, so the best they can do is glance a landraider as well. If you get enough weapon destroyed or immobilized results you can kill a landraider, but it's very likely.

I agree the numberS ate against them but that's were their numbers come in. I'd advise to give them at the least AG but even without it have a large enough broods clawing will eventually wreck the toughest vehicle. But you won't always be facing a AV14. Having the power to do so in every fame helps both on the feild and psychologically. I choose genes because termagants, hormagaunts, and even warriors all are in capable of doing ant real damage. The warriors can but require the rending claws upgrade and is no were as many. Plus their already more expensive then a genestealer. It's worth 2 and a point to spare to be exact.

Umm, as pointed out above they do need the adrenal glands and charge to be able to glance the toughest vehicle (ie. AV14 vehicles)
Statistically, to score one glancing hit on a Landraider they need...
3 rending hits (on a D3, one should score a 3)
Which needs 18 penetration rolls (on a D6, one should score a 6)
Assuming the Landraider only moved at combat speed, the Stealers need 36 attacks (at 4+ to hit, half should score). 31 attacks if armed with scything talons.
To get 36 attacks on the charge, the brood needs 12 members.
Now, a glacing hit can't score a vehicle destroyed result. Their best bet is to score multiple weapon destroyed and immobilised results, which are 5 and 6 for glancing hits. That's one in three, so they need 36 Genestealers with Glands charging

If you're hunting tanks with stealers, you're playing all wrong. A lot of nid units are specialized, they do one thing well, and not much else, stealers are one of those. Granted, you "can" kill a tank with stealers, but it probably won't happen twice in your lifetime, unless you have loaded dice.

I play nids, but if I'm facing nids using another army, I'd take lots of tanks (and dreads) and try to kill any winged tyrants first (they worth a lot of points), especially ones with two sets of scything talons. And then Trygons as they pop up.
I wouldn't worry about rending claws.
Go ahead, send forth the Stealers and Raveners at me.
With AV 13 or 14, I wouldn't worry too much about Hive Guards as they only have S8 and 24" range.
Will send assault units towards them.
Carnis are slow, but a brood with 3 HVCs is a threat. But then they get -1 modifier.
With only WS3 and I 1, I'd take them on with dreads if I have to.
Zoes are scary, but they have to pass psy test, and only 18" range. I'd keep my tanks 24" away from them until assault units tie them up.
Anyways, what's good about nids is that melta /AP1 (which ppl always take) and lance weapon rules don't mean anything to nids.

As said the battleforce box set will do you good here. More bodies especially for the genestealers and warriors units as well as a carnifex if I remember right. I personally prefer carnifexes still over the trygon.
Also note, a Flying Tyrant makes for 1 bad ass tank killing mofo!

They took the fex out of the battleforce box, it's still a decent deal, but not what it used to be.

Nothing, they took out the fex, left the rest the same, and raised the price. Try to figure out the sales savvy behind that one.

When I started my Tyranid army I bought three of the old battleforces, those were awesome and a great way to build a nid force fast. Since, I haven't bought a single one, I"ll buy things individually instead of that box now. I guess it was too good of a deal.

removed the carnifex, but doubled the number of termagants and hormagants.
used to be: 1 carnifex, 3 warrior, 3 rippers, 8 genestealers, 8 termagants, 8 hormagaunts
now: 3 warriors, 3 rippers, 8 genestealers, 16 termagants, 16 hormagaunts
still a great deal for bulking out your hordes; the carnifex is definately missed, but considering its not as great as it used to be I think the worth getting more guants.
