Is it just me -_-
Ive been playjng this guy who collects tyranids and well...I lost miserably.
The reason is, he decided to use this so called ''infiltration'' special rule. So he deploys 20 genestealers right next to 2 squads of shocktroopers [20 men] right at the heart of my base... Because i was the defending side, he gets to start first so he gets into close combat and because his genestealers have 3 attacks [60 attacks overall] he analliated my squads. Because my next set of troops were within 6inches he went into close combat again and annaliated them as well, this went on for half an hour[ with my tanks and the rest of my squads] and I didnt even get a turn...I dont know if thats areal rule, but it just seemed a little unrealistic to me that you can deploy 20 genestealers at the heart of someones base. And unfortunately for me, he went boasting about it to his friends saying how he destroyed an entire IG force in one turn. Is there any super duper rule like that for IG? Could someone tell me if this is even a real rule???

well you can only to one combat with one unit in a turn so even if his genestealers did wipe out your unit they would have to consolidate and stay 1 inch away of any enemy troops. so they couldn't wipe you in one turn. also when he infiltrates he has to be twelve inches away from you so deploy in a way that he cant infilitrate right in the middle of your army.

There is a chance he doesn't understand the rules...but if he's any sort of veteran player, then he cheated you.
Check the 70's in your rule book for USR and read up on infiltration...then reread the close combat bit of the rules. Then roll up the book and box your opponent around the head and neck

I think what the guy did is he made it a rule that everytime your within 6inches of enemy troops, you can assault. Personally, i think he was taking my newbieness to his advantage and im going to tell him about that 12inch thing, although i dont want a rematch cuz hes a..a...cant find the right word...

Firstly, read the rules for infiltration. A unit may be deployed 12" from yours if there is no line of site to it from one of your units or 18" away and you are able to draw a line of site. This means that if he deploys carefully he could get in 12" but with such a large unit that isn't easy. Supposing he's 18" away he again could get in assault with your unit considering they have fleet but he'd need to be a bit luck on his running roles and through any cover in the way.
Secondly, after a combat is resolved the winning unit gets a consolidation move of D6" but that unit cannot assault into a new combat with that move, you can only assault into combat in your own turn in the assault phase. So in theory now his unit of Genestealers are close enough and exposed enough for you to get a good round of shooting in.
If he's very lucky the combat will last more than his turn and into yours, so while you're locked in combat in your turn, you can't shoot at him. That allows for him to potentially win the combat in your assault phase, consolidate, then assault in his own assault phase and not face your return fire.
So, he can get into combat on his first turn, but it's not all that likely, second he can hop from combat to combat, but again only if he's lucky and only in his assault phase.
Another tip, it's always better to assault a close combat unit than to be assaulted by them.

ok thanks, I told him and hes pretty much losing the argument and also he says that insight its 6'' and out of sight its 12''. He also claims that he can put his genestealers straight into close combat even though I had a whole squad facing his squad because the model that is furthest away from the opponent counts as to how many inches he is away from me. [his furthest model in his squad from mine was about 14'' to 18''inches away] so I accidentally started a debate between 2 guys in the club one of them is the guywho played against me and the other one is trying to correct him

the only way he can be out of sight is if he is behind a building so no models can see him which is kinda hard to do. go to the index and look up line of sight it should take you straight to the page and also look up the rules for infiltrate and quote them to him

P75 for Infiltrate and P40 for consolidation. It's all very black and white in the rulebook, which I'm guessing you don't have or you could have looked in the Index

thank you guys for the answers, the tyranid player apologized, he didnt know those were the rules.
Another thing, the dormant rule. I believe its a special rule for tyranids where they can sort of infiltrate/teleport into a building after each player has deployed his/her troops. Im not too sure about it so please correct me and tell me if there are any restrictions as to how many inches you haveto be awagfrom someone if there are any of those kinds of rules.
thank you

Also, if you were in or behind terrain, and he charged you, you should have struck first. Small consolation for 1st roudn combat, I know, but it can make a difference.
See genestealers lack this great thing called....frag grenades or equivalent.
Good judgement comes from experience, alot of that comes from bad judgement
