If you're fighting Wraiths (who are often with a Dlord), then make sure you have a character with the unit w/ rad grenades and psycho if possible, HH from the character to get to S5, then have the unit activate FW, now you'll be toasting wraiths on the first failed wound, annihilate the unit and move on.

I don't see why people are having issues fighting necrons, must be lack of experience against the new codex.
You're assuming you'd get into CC with Necrons with ideal situations...Of course you're the one being a lil' delusional GKT charging Warriors? Ain't that a peachy assault hammer facing a generic Troops unit and you expected the Warriors to win/stand a chance? Explain?

If facing Wraiths, I donno what to tell you, shoot them? T4 3+ Save...They're MARINES for god-sakes...

I've de-meched Mech IG and shot up many other armies. Of course I've faced the silly GK lists and have had a rough time vs. those specific examples, but again, those also have a rough time vs me.

Now if you run Rad+Psycho against any unit, it's good, so I donno why this is "oh, I counter 'Crons with the cheese combo, just like anything else" is special? At least vs Mindshackles you save yourself 50% of the time, Nades just automatically go off. So again - How are you assuming all-encompassing FAIR fight again??

If it's just basic GKT (5) with a Psycannon, maybe a Hammer (I'll do you the favor assuming you were still tailoring and not bothering to take Halberds) vs Lychguard with Swords/Shields, I think the two units are equal.

The problems Necrons put out for folks is:

    Volume of firepower
Night Fight summonable to protect from 1st turn-hell (Against some lists like IG)
Great mobility (Not necessarily fast, but can move and shoot the army to the degree Tau can)

Really getting tired of suggesting tailoring to beat your foe AoB. (GK winzors if you take this stuff! Like, all a sudden GK is everyone's army in reserves and special gear like Brain Mines come out to screw Crons, SO MUCH TAILORING) /rant.

If the two lists don't tailor to each other, I think GK and Crons are a fine matchup.

By this I mean, once, twice, or at the very most, three times, fate will reach out and tap a man on the shoulder… if he has the imagination, he will turn around and fate will point out to him what fork in the road he should take, if he has the guts, he will take it.” - General George S. Patton

My experience with the GK is they simply do not bring enough wounds to the table to deal with my firepower. If (not when) they manage to make it to CC there are so few of them they don't put up much of a fight. The worst thing I have encountered from the GK's is the DreadKnight rush and luckily most the non-thinking net list boys don't run DK's because they aren't on the list. TLords and Horde are the ones that seem to get up my butt the most. We have a guy here that runs huge numbers of un-upgrade hormogaunts and that is just down right brutal on our tables which typically have no less than 8 pieces of area terrain.

I don't understand what is meant when people say necrons are "their own enemy".

Do you mean the point cost is to high? Or do they have bad save rolls or something?

P.s. I am new to 40k as well, and trying to learn about all the armies.

Never suggested a tailored win smurfy, you assumed that.

Besides myself, I've yet to see a competitive GK list NOT use rad + psycho grenades. They're just too awesome to pass up. It's like purposely not taking a Warschythe or MS.

MY experience with my own GKT army has shown me exactly what GKT's can withstand, and it's a whole lot. I don't run basic 5 man GKT's. I'm running 30. I've already posted my list, I'm sure you've seen it.

Also there is no assuming one get's into combat against necrons in ideal situations. Did you get into combat with necrons? Then it was ideal.

Unlike most armies, Necrons tend to heavily rely on their synergy, break key items and it all falls apart.

Maybe you're just tired of GK in general. I will admit it, GK aren't good for 40k. Like I've said before, non special character marines have no business with I6 forceweapons or continuous 3+ cover saves on models with a 3+ armor save or better. Ward broke alot of precedents with the GK codex, and it will continue to be one of the strongest, if not the strongest codex to date, well into 6th ed.

Good judgement comes from experience, alot of that comes from bad judgement
