Defend gets a kick in FAQ 1.1
http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_...nuary_2012.pdf
So instead of being a -1 to Attack in the assault they're involved with, it's only -1 if those attacks are directed against the squad with the Defend Exarch in. Subtle, but significant.
Just thought I'd bring it to everyone's attention.
This week I am good-naturedly shaking my fist at: Baragash. For being unreasonably reasonable.
Sex, drugs and pointy ears.
Cheaphammer 40p: 2000 points of Marines as cheap as possible.
It'll be alright on the Knight - a slow refreshing of my original Grey Knight army.
Cordova: In my head you're eight foot tall, always carry an officer's sabre, and speak like Theoden at the battle of Pelennor Fields.
Grey Knights don't go to heaven: they go to hell and regroup.

it's always been -1 attack directed at the exarch's squad, and not -1 for just being involved the same multi-combat as the defend exarch.
more over there are alot of people that used Defend as a cumulative penalty, taking 1 attack per assault phase of extended combats, so by the 3 round the attackers would be -3 attacks (min 1).
I never saw it as a stacking penalty so I'm happy that this was cleared up as just a -1 for that phase
Army (W/L/D)
CSM 0/0/0 (70% painted)
Tyranid 0/0/0 (updating)
Eldar 1/1/5

So why the need to re-FAQ and highlight it?

I've always played it as -1 each Assault Phase, non-cumulative. Anyone who did that (and this is the first time I've heard of such a thing) is a twat.
Ah well. New FAQ for all anyway.

Because people need to be told how to play it correctly, not how they belive it to be played because they didn't fully read the rule, or understand how it interacts correctly.
Good judgement comes from experience, alot of that comes from bad judgement
