    Black Legion - A progress

I recently joined the forum and said I'd post some pix so here goes

This is the Demon prince, Nice model to paint, on reflection Im disappointed with the rust on the sword, Anybody got ideas for improvment?

This is my Plague Marines sorry for qual of pic its the seven man Nurgle squad sold from GW plus a Icon bearer I picked up from Ebay. I liked these models and enjoyed painting them.

    And the Demon Prince

    I can't see any pics.

This week I am good-naturedly shaking my fist at: Baragash. For being unreasonably reasonable.

Cheaphammer 40p: 2000 points of Marines as cheap as possible.
It'll be alright on the Knight - a slow refreshing of my original Grey Knight army.

Ok so Im now looking at 2 bigger versions of the pix I can see at the top which Ed and I presume others cant. Hopefully they can be seen by all now.
Top pic Plague Marines bottom Demon, comments still stand plus my photography looks worse now its blown up the camera flash makes it all look a bit shiney, and I was looking for a more "normal" look for the Demons skin but more bruised and sore and with some "dead" areas and this doesnt come across well in this pic. ... Great looking models!

How did you get the green to look both blotchy and smooth at the same time?

    well done, sir

    Looking very nurgly indeed!

The flash from the camera is a bit bright, but the pics turned out ok, maybe try to dampen the flash a bit next time?

Hi I base coated model with watered down chaos black which I hand brushed on, then starting with a base layer of camo green which was washed with a skaven brown ink (old citadel ink, is a very dark brown almost black colour watered down) then built it up through about 3 watered down layers of camo green mixed in with Goblin Green gradually increasing the goblin green and finally hand highlighted with Scorpian Green and last bit is rust and bit detail, metal trim is chainmail washed with black ink and hand painted rust (rust is my weak point, I want it more lumpy) used same technique on Demon and plague marines but took more time with demon. & thanks for compliment.

Hi Omega Ill try flashless but wait for some better natural light, your right the flash is a bit overwelming and obliterates some detail.

I like them a lot! My favourite bit has to be the red spot on the DP's left shoulder - it's come out perfectly! The green has come out great as well, although I think you could stand to make the metals a bit more crazy - perhaps with some different kinds of washes? Green here, red there etc? The big sword would benefit immensely from some more shading like that I think.

Looking damn fine! I love the different shades of green you have on the plague marines. The bases are awesome too, very fitting for a nurgle army.

    Can't wait to see more!

IP & Micheal thanks for the comments guys I apprieciate them, I agree the trim couldve done with a little more work, But Im still working on my "Nurgley rust" skills. The look I was after with the bases is a black/dark sand terrain with tar pools, with some sporadic rock and alien plantlife. I was pleased with my sludge but I thought Eds was better on his Typhus model, But ive started with tar now so Ill carry it on.

With some of the previous comments I may have misled you, I couldn't actually make up my mind what 40K army to build other than CSM, and although my favoured dieities are Khorne & Nurgle Im terrible at sticking to one theme, I like variety. So the best compromise reading the fluff and legalities of playability (unless im wrong and im sure someone will point it out lol) I could come up with was a Black Legion core with elements of other CSM/demonic forces that I could add or drop adhoc when the force gets large enough (or I dont run out of patience first) So I have a painted Black Legion core of a squad/sqaud and half, The nurgle models above, & Im working on a Khorne Berserker squad (6/12 without bases complete) at the mo with a host of unpainted models left to do lol. Ill have to post the pic of my Black Legion models at a later date. Im at an early enough stage to go any way really, What do you guys think? KK guys chat laters ....... MD

Sounds good to me. Black Legion are the Ultramarines of Chaos (kinda ) in that they're the basic "go to" Chaos Marines which will include anything and everything.

    Black Legion

I uploaded my BL pic it was taken same time as the Nurgle ones hence the flash issue.

So I bought the basic CSM boxset from GW and painted them BL In addition I got 2 old style havocs from Ebay (H Bolter & Plasma Gun) plus a scorcerer I liked, and started off by army I didnt like the standard champion that come with the set but after making him anyway decided to keep him, but make an additional one from various bits in the box plus some I had previously. I was pleased with this one (purple horn) I thought I would go red dessert for the bases and have a loose plan of converting a better standard/icon bearer at a later date, bulking out with another half dozen or so basic CSMs, plus I have an unpainted set of havocs with which to further expand the set. So with these I managed to get some BL shoulder pads but not enough to go round so hand painted the "eye of Horus" best I could on the remaining ones. After that thought I'd go terminators maybe, before getting a lord model. I havent bought Abbadon because although I like painting them, special characters I feel should be used less frequently than they tend to be, having said that I have no doubt Ill buy him and paint him at some point (seems logical if you have a BL force) KK anyways carrying on with my World Eaters now.

I just previewed this post and the pic seems enormous hope it doesnt come out in the final draught that way.

The flash is a little bright, but the squad itself looks good. Great unit you've got there, one which will put the frighteners on most people I should think!
