GK vs Oaks 700 points - any ideas?

Hi I was wondering could I get some ideas for a 700 point GK army that would be affective against Oaks?

    Many Thanks

    Ian...

oaks huh? id say give em a few axes and they should hack those oaks down in no time. if ya really wanna make sure they do the job well, ensure everyone has beards, beanies, and flannel shirts on.

as for an army at 700, theres not much you can really do. take a cheap hq like a librarian or brother-captain, add in a couple strike squads in rhinos maybe.

Against Oaks(orks I think), purifiers are great, but it would be very hard to do at 700 points.

Purgation Squad. Then Terminators with a Incinerator and Strike Squad(s) to get more firepower. Brotherhood Champion as HQ should do nicely.

This week I am good-naturedly shaking my fist at: Baragash. For being unreasonably reasonable.
    Sex, drugs and pointy ears.
Cheaphammer 40p: 2000 points of Marines as cheap as possible.
It'll be alright on the Knight - a slow refreshing of my original Grey Knight army.
Cordova: In my head you're eight foot tall, always carry an officer's sabre, and speak like Theoden at the battle of Pelennor Fields.

Grey Knights don't go to heaven: they go to hell and regroup.

    An interesting proposition...

Going through the most recent Grey Knights Codex and the points costs, it'll be rather hard to do in such a limited fashion, but not impossible.

To start, an Inquisitor would be a good HQ Choice, coming in at as little as 25 points for a 'bare-bones, bog-standard' option. More feasable, would be to take Inquisitor Coteaz at 100 points and take advantage of the Lord of Formosa Rule, but that's the easy solution and doesn't effectively answer the problem of taking a pure Grey Knights army into the field.

it depends on how much you're willing to limit yourself. I've played an 1,100 point game in which i only had a grand total of 12 models on the table. I had Draigo as my HQ, 2 Paladin Squads, one with Justicar Thawn (And yes, I am aware that in hindsight, it was probably illegal, but the people at tthe GW store didn't pull me up on it at all, and I checked with them, so please don't flame for that), and a Vindicarte assassin.

My personal advice would be to take Draigo as a HQ. Sure, he's 275 points, but he can take a lot of damage and hold out quite well against larger numbers, a necessity against Orks. Then a Terminator Squad with Justicar Thawn as a necessity. Thawn actually proved significantly helpful with his I Shall Not Yield ability, saving me in my match that I referenced above, which was against a force of Imperial Guards that outnumbered me 5-to-1. That takes, going again by the most basic calculations, 550 points.

A valid apporach to get your other Troops choice is to take a Paladin and an Apothecary. That brings you to 660 points, gives you some durable units and leaves 40 pts left over for a few minor upgrades. If you're following this, bear in mind that Draigo has the Lord of Titan special rule, which allows you to take Paladins as Troops choices. Grand Strategy also allows you to nominate your units to have a special ability, with Coutner-Attack or re-rolling To Wound rolls of 1 being the most likely choices against an Ork horde at such a points value.

The above approach only gives you 8 soldiers to face down a horde of Orks, but they do all have Terminator Armour and do well at both range and Melee. An alternative, however, would be to take Castellan Crowe and go for Prufier Squads. Crowe's Keeper of Anarch special rule does for Purifiers what Draigo's Lord of Titan rule does for Paladins: Allows you to take them as Troops. Crowe comes in at 150 points, and a bare-bones Purifier troop comes in at 120 points.

Following this alternate approach, the basic maths comes out at a points cost of 390 pts, leaving 310 pts for customization of your squads or the chance to add a Dreadknight to your team. That's about the best I can do without further specifics.
