    Toughest opponent?

Hello, I noticed a Thread going in some of the other forums and I think it's a great question.

Who in your opinion is the toughest opponent for the IG?

Dunno, probably Dark Eldar? They can say meh to all those heavy IG tanks (lots of dark lances) and get into melee real quick.

I would think a swarm army that is good in cc like the nids, especially if the guard army isnt tank heavy.

Hmmm, yeah, that works too I guess.
Termagant spam in mycetics for the platoons, and Genestealers for the tanks (IG tanks have like, what? 10 or 11 rear armour?)
But I can't be bothered making a mycetic spore. I imagine it's a gigantic Kinder Surprise (or Tyraniden Surprise)? Hahaha...

From what I've been reading, I am thinking it would be Necrons or Grey Knights ... everyone seems to think GKs are unstoppable, and the Necron special rules sound really freaky.

    Any thoughts?

I use Creed and 4 Squads with auto cannons so Dark Eldar aren't as bad, and Executioner and Battle cannon russ plus a chimera with 4 flamers so hordes aren't as bad either. I just can't deal with Blood Angels. The deep strike in so i don't get to spend my time shooting them as they run at me, plus with the jet packs they get in your face even if they do drift away. Im using the officer of the Fleet now in my 1500 list but Blood angels just reck me.

I have also heard that some army codexes are outdated. Any ideas on what GW will be updating, and will it be soon? I think if there was a new Codex for some armies then IG tactics would have to change.

All the armies mentioned above have recent codexes, they won't be updated for another 4-5 years?
I am curious though, what kind of shooty army are you looking for? Seems like you want one that has no weaknesses and let you win easily =/

Haha ... that would be cool. But I'm kind of torn right now between Necrons and IG. I really like the IG (story, army, etc.) but I am a new player and I have heard a lot about Necrons and how "forgiving" the We'll Be Back rule can be, and how effective they can be with their guns (taking out any vehicle, etc.)

So I'm just trying to learn about the armies; are they outdated? is there anything difficult about them? etc. etc.

The Necrons is the army with the newest codex right now they can take on anything, really.
But don't worry about being a new player. You will only be "new" for a month or two.

If you really like IG, then go for it. Nobody else has so many different uniforms and tanks like IG.
And if you're having trouble winning, there are a lot of people here who will help you

The only outdated armies are Tau, Sisters of Battle and Black Templars I think.
Orks, Eldar, dark Angels and Chaos Daemons are still ok.

Yeah, the codexes are old, but I don't think they will be renewed anytime soon =(
Taking a look at the GW site, we see that they increased the prices of Eldar and DA codexes to match the newer ones, but Tau codex still got the old pricetag.

A new player will get one or two years out of the current codex probably?
Apparently they're still competitive even with the relatively high point costs.

So the codexes for an army will only last a year or two? How often do they update the armies?

Actually the Sister got a new codex this summer. Nobody on the Sister forum seems to consider it an improvement.

The IG is versatile, you could probably built a list to defeat almost any army if you know in advance that you will fight it. Against GK use melta and lascanon rather than flamer and hvy bltr.

Once every 4-5 years, but it took them 10 years before they updated the DE codex =/

I'm just guessing that you can still get 1 or 2 years out of Eldar, Dark Angels, Daemons or Orks codex.
