So I bought stuff and it didn't have instructions! ;)
So, I have probably lusted quietly over the Warhammer 40k line since maybe the mid 90s. I had a close friend who had a large army of miniatures/models and he was always saying I should try it.
I used to build models all the time as a kid, but when it came to painting them, I never really did. I was lucky if I got the decals on. I painted a few model rockets but it was a can of paint, a stick up the engine mount and no detail at all.
So I bought the start kit that is supposed to 'go easy' on us new kids. Kid being the operative word here, last time I touched a model or used the glue was in the late 80s so things have changed a little bit. There isn't just a 'bottle of testers glue' that melts the plastic faster than you can put it together. Also, much to my surprise, there is hardly any assembly instructions.
Determined not to be an idiot and get scared I jumped in screaming with my cutters. I purchased the 'Assault on Black Reach' kit, the starter paint kit, and the 'how to paint citadel models' and I think I've put together eight of the guys and their sergeant
We will see if the base stays on or their arms don't fall off.
Painting should be a bit of an adventure. Maybe my local shop I bought from has a class or something, I'll start lurking there too but I work a lot and its nice to read forums so here I am.

Welcome to the hobby and the forum. There are limited instructions...because there are no rules on what pieces go where model wise (game wise...the model needs to match the weapons and such that it has).
Try GW plastic glue if you want chemical bonding (melting) of the plastic...super glue is perfectly fine though...and the only thing you can use on metal models.
Check out the painting forum...we have members in every category from beginners to world class professionals....you'll get some good advice

Welcome to the forums. As Arch said, the painting section is great for tips on building and painting your models, there are also quite a few articles that explain different aspects of painting to give the models a certain ZING when they're done.

Hey and welcome!
Great that you're finally getting into the hobby!
As the others said, we have lots of very talented guys in the painting/conversion/artwork section of the forum. Don't hesitate to create a thread there if you have any questions concerning the painting side of the hobby or need critique on some of your models.
