best well rounded setup would be to take more troops lol
with Chaos Terminators 'well rounded' isn't a good setup. They need a specific mission
Termicide is usually the best 'cost effective' setup (unfortunately the box set doesn't come with enough parts to make it, so you'll have to hunt down the remaining bitz, kit only has one combi-melta)
-Squad of just Three chaos Terminators, each with combi-melta, one gets a chainfist. total cost: 120pts (purpose is to Deep Strike next to an important/expensive enemy vehicle and melta it to oblivion. IF the opponent does not immediately kill the spent combis' the terminators then assault other vehicles with the chainfist. Most big-mean tanks will cost at least 120 pts if not more, so that initial kill should earn their points back. Only real problems with this setup is that it relies on the reserve rolls so their target vehicle doesn't cause too much damage before they arrive; as well, Deep Striking has it's own quirks and dangers; but overall the risk/reward is well worth it)
for Close Combat Terminators, unfortunately the game isn't being cost effective but rather just plain murderous fun
Squad of 4 or 5 chaos terminators, one chain or powerfist, the rest paired lightning claws and a dedicated transport Land Raider with extra armour OR Daemonic Possession. Cost: 400pts min
(4 termy squad is to fit a chaos lord into the landraider with them, 5 man is obviously without an independant character)
-depending on how many points you want to splurg the squad is given a combat icon (Khorne for extra attacks, Slaanesh to swing faster than Marine opponents) as well one or more terminators are upgraded to champions (again extra attacks) some also give the fist termy a combi-weapon or heavy flamer... all depends on how many points you want to sink into a badazz unit (some also forgo the fist for all lightning claws, but I feel that is too careless as if they can't handle enemy dreadnoughts without a fist, preferable a chainfist)
-again this setup requires additional bitz not found in the boxset (no lightning claws
)
I've experimented with other semi-shooty setups but none have really shined
closest was to use a squad of 3-5 terminators with combi-plasmas to hunt down enemy terminators. worked so-so but against assault terminators with stormshields it doesn't make much of a dent; so the points were better used on other units (like troops)

i like all of the troop choices that my brothers chaos has you have a wider range of troops easyier to score. you have beserkers, plague, chosen they all score obj and their pretty tough the term arn't worth it
Look in your codex you'll find a better way to waste 180 pts

Mark of Tzeentch comes in handy for survivability. Mark of Khorne on 4 Champions with Lightning Claws + Lord/Kharn in a Land Raider is pretty damned nasty.

I love my Tzneech but for Termies Slaneesh. 4 champs with the mark of Slaneesh and lightening claws (faster then everything other than Grey Knights, some DE and some Eldar), mix them with a Slaneesh Sorc with Lash (BS5 he will still hit on shooting now that the new FAQ says you have to roll to hit) and toss them in a Land Raider. That unit Kills pretty much everything!
My wife asked "where do all the models come from?"
I said "The Warhammer Fairy"

would be nice, but alas, this weapon combination isn't not legal

Chaos can't mix close combat weapons (though it might be possible in the future since the loyalist marine codexes have changed to the "replace bolt pistol and/or chainsword"; but we'll have to wait and see)

give the chainfist guy a combi melta. that way, you can come out, blow up a transport, and assault the chewy center!
