Question about the Ultramarines and Iron Warriors series - Please Help :)
Hey everyone! I have a question for anyone who has read the Ultramarines series by graham McNeill.
So, I'm a huge Iron Warriors fan as my first 40k novel (and still one of my favorites) was Storm of Iron by Graham McNeill. So I am VERY excited about the upcoming release of the Iron Warriors Omnibus as I have been dying for more Iron Warriors material. However, I have not yet read the Ultramarines series and I know that the Iron Warriors series is actually a spin off from the Ultramarines series. So I'm trying to prepare myself for the release of the Iron Warriors Omnibus by reading the Ultramarines series. I have the first Ultramarines Omnibus and was about to start reading it.
My problem/questions is that other than Storm of Iron, I do not know the timeline between the Ultramarines and Iron Warriors series. According to the wiki I found, Storm of Iron takes place between the 2nd and 3rd books in the Ultramarines series. I also know that Honsou and the Iron Warriors are actually in the 3rd Ultramarines book - Dead Sky, Black Sun. But what I need to know is if Honsou and the Iron Warriors are in any of the later Ultramarines books such as the 4th, 5th or 6th Ultramarines books?
Basically I want to know if I need to read the entire 6 book Ultramarines series to catch up on iron Warriors material? Or are the Iron Warriors only in the 3rd Ultramarines book and I can stop reading after I'm done with the 1st Ultramarines omnibus?
I'm trying to make sure I am totally caught up on the Iron Warriors fluff before the omnibus comes out next month and I currently only have the first Ultramarines Omnibus. The 2nd Ultramarines omnibus containing books 4, 5 and 6 does not release until later this year. So do I only need to read the first Ultramarines omnibus for book 3? Or do the Iron Warriors characters and events carry on into the later Ultramarines books (4, 5, 6) as well?
Thanks for the help everyone!

After Uriel's encounter with Honsou...the IW are not seen again in that series. Next book is Chaos/Warp things, then Tau

Awesome! Thank you so much for this information! So the 3rd Ultramarines book - Dead Sky, Black Sun is the only Ultramarines book that Honsou and the Iron Warriors appear in? Thus by reading the Ultramarines Omnibus, I will be all ready for the Iron Warriors Omnibus next month? I want to read the whole Ultramarines series eventually, I just intend to wait for the 2nd Omnibus to release later this year instead of trying to track down the individual novels and short stories.

Oh? Does Honsou and the Iron Warriors make a return in the 6th Ultramarines book, The Chapter's Due? If so, does anyone know if that takes place before or after the events in the Iron Warriors Omnibus that is coming out next month? I'm trying to nail down this timeline between the Ultramarines and Iron Warriors books. Thanks again everyone!

You do realise that hte "new" iron warriors omnibus will only contain 2 new short stories?
That's from the Black library website, so nothing really special here. Hate to bust your bubble.Containing the novel Storm of Iron and the novella Iron Warrior, gathered alongside several Iron Warrior shorts, including two new stories.
There is no peace among the stars, only an eternity of slaughter and the laughter of thirsting gods.
Cast down the idols! Destroy the temples! slay the priests! Show these fools that they worship nothing more than a rotting corpse!
Sanity is for the Weak! Your slavery to the false emperor ends today!

when did chapter's due come out? I stopped paying attention to 40k books. I also have a tendency to forget that the omnibus is not the whole thing...

Chapters Due
Honsou is most definately in the 6th book "The Chapters Due" in fact it is the culmination of the 6 book series based around Honsou's unreasoning hatred of Ventris that lead directly to the events in this final book. I particularley enjoyed the Ultramaines series and its is well written, and I like the "coming together" of the many threads in this series of books.
Regarding the timeline, the Iron Warriors Omnibus is what it is, which is a collection of IW stories in chronological order within that book (an omnibus) but spread over a larger timeline in the 40Kverse in which the events in the Ultramarines series take place, amongst others.
Having said that I have rarely read a 40K book that was completely spoiled because I havent read a previous book from a linear timeline, I believe that this is deliberate policy from BL ........... cheers MD
