adeptus mechanicus army
hey guys, i have recently been thinking of making a counts-as adeptus mechanicus army with the vanilla marine codex. below I have listed what I plan to start with.
HQ-MOTF(from finecast techmarine)
troops-5 servitors(count as scouts, from finecast kit and blister)
troops-10 iron hands tactical marines(iron hands kit, i already have a rhino for them)
including the codex, this comes to around 150$ USD, how viable a list is this?
next, I was planning on getting a land speeder storm and thunderfire cannon, how are these units in actual battles?
Have at thee!

It's your basic starter list... one HQ and two troops units.
The TFC is really fun, great firepower but will get shot at a lot.
The speeder storm is a bad choice, IMO. If it were a ded. transpo maybe. Being open topped you can run around and shoot with scouts. And you can assault from it. But really, for the same points you can take a regular speeder and run around with a heavy bolter instead... Infiltrate/Scout the scouts to where you want them.
It can be useful, if you want to have a fast unit for objective grabs... but it's also vulnerable to most firepower.

yup...
On the bright side... with a little creativity you can make a squad of scouts out of the models that come with the LSS. There might only be 4 of them actually... I don't recall for sure...
My son got one when he bought his scouts. We made up more scouts out of that kit and played with it several times... it usually ends up just acting like a "wound-to-give" for snipers... gets them in position and they can shoot from it while it sits still... it has to die before they get shot at...
It has its uses... but they nerf'd it a bit by not making it a DT for scouts

Check the GK codex, make your Arch Magos Inquisitor Corteaz (Lord of Formosa), and take Henchmen warbands as Troop as well as Elite (but you have many other elite choices) if you want.
Those warband include Servitors and Daemonhost (superservitor) at 10 pts and low cost (15 pts) elites such as Arco flagellant, Assasins and Crusaders for which cc Skitarii can stand in. Warrior henchmen become costly when well fitted, but the array of wpnry available is surprising wide and will provide some shooty Skitarii.
Of course Techmarine are Tech priest, as can be Dreads and Venerable Dreads. The Nemesis Dreadknight may be a Knight of the Mechanicus novel
The GK themselves are interesting as super soldiers amongst the Skitarii. The Interceptor squads are pure mechanicus fluff as are the Stormraven taken as Fast attack choices.
Of course, I am not sure yet of a winning list for the Lord of Formosa, but you may probably field a fun Mechanicus list from it
Have fun
