AC's Christmas Army List, looking for suggestions

As many of you will have seen, I am extremely slowing building up a number of Christmas themed Necrons. Up until now, I've not really put much thought into creating an entire army. However, a couple of weeks ago, I picked up the new Necron Codex and have started to put together a list.

I've never played the game before, and I don't know if I'll ever find the time, but I would like to make a usable army, just in case.

My initial plan at the moment, is to try and shoehorn in a few slightly fluffy wargear options that would relate to Santa. ie Veil of Darkness - No one ever sees Santa when he's out delivering, so a Veil of Darkness would help with that, etc.

Okay, so here is what I've looked at so far based on a few of the things people have said in other threads, but I've probably forgotten half of the important stuff that was mentioned in them, so suggestions would be appreciated.

    Current plan is 1000 points.

    HQ
Overlord with Phaeron, Phaseshifter - 155pts
    + Catacomb Command Barge - 80pts (Santa-cron needs a sleigh)
    Royal Court
= Cryptek - Harbinger of Despair with Veil of Darkness - 60pts
    = Cryptek - Harbinger of Eternity - 40pts

    Troops
    Warriors x 10 - 130pts
    Immortals with Tesla Carbines x 10 - 170pts

    Elites
Lychguard with Hyperphase Swords and Dispersion Shields x 5 - 225pts
Flayed Ones x 5 - 65pts (Snow-crons like the one already made in my Christmas Necron thread. Only really in the list because I've already made one, so will fill out a squad of them for fun)

    Fast Attack
    Canoptek Scarabs x 5 - 75pts

If I worked that out correctly, that comes to exactly 1000 points, but what do I really need in there that isn't?

If Santa-cron is riding in the sleigh he isnt going to need the phaeron upgrade but will need a warscythe. Also are you considering giving him a sack of toys, because I think it would be interesting if it was filled with scarabs and then you could give him mindshackle scarabs war gear.

Not fully decided on how I'll model Santa-cron yet. Got a couple of possible ideas, but never considered a sack of toys. Don't know how that would fit on a base easily. Still thinking of ideas though, so I may look into that.

Just out of interest, what would be the best options for an overlord on foot? (ignoring my current list for this answer)

It depends on what you want to use him for.

For cc, I would put your overlord w/ warscythe, res orb, and gauntlet of fire in a squad of lychguard w/ dispersion shields.

If you want him for fire support, put it in a squad of immortals/warriors and give him the phaeron upgrade.

My suggestion, however, is to put a regular lord w/ warscythe and res orb in a squad of lychguard, and to put your overlord w/ phaeeron upgrade with a squad of immortals/warriors.

You can't have both a Warscythe and a gauntlet of fire.

There is pretty much no reason that any of your overlords should not have a Warscythe. They are fantastic pieces of wargear.

You can have both, you just have to choose which you are using in CC.

No you can only have one. To quote the codex "You many exchange staff of light for one of the following:" Really outside of the warscythe the only other weapon I would take would be the hyperphase sword, and that is when I am trying to save points.

Ah, ok. Well, the gauntlet can be somewhat useful with it's template, since we are lacking in the template department. But then, we don't necessarily need templates to deal with anything.

New idea for use of the Royal Court. 5x Lords with Gauntlets, 5x Despair Crypteks = Templating unit of nasty?

Thanks for the thoughts so far people.

So general consensous is that I want a warscythe whether my overlord is on foot or not.

Back to the list I put up originally though, apart from dropping the Phaeron upgrade and adding a warscythe for the overlord, are there any other thoughts on anything that could do with altering? If I tried adding Mindshackle scarabs to the overlord, by my count that puts me 5 points over 1000.

I would take out the flayed ones (five isn't really going to do you a whole lot) and your harbinger of eternity for an annihilation barge.

Picked up an Annihilation Barge / Catacomb Command Barge kit today from The Games Bunker in Weston today.
Wasn't planning on buying anything else just yet, but I heard yesterday that they're closing down at the end of Feb, so thought I'd pick one up from them while I had the chance. Don't very often go anywhere near any gaming stores, so figured I may aswell.

Anyway, just started putting together some Canoptek Scarab Swarms the other day with a Christmassy theme, and then I'll try and look at what I can do with modelling the Overlord before I buy anything else off the considered list. I've still got plenty of Warriors to do aswell, so not desperate to buy things right away.

Thanks for the suggestions for the list. It's much appreciated.

Are you doing anything special with the scarabs? Other wise a suggestions would be to putting keys in there backs to make them look like wined up toys, the kind Santacron would deliver.

Yep, got a plan for the scarabs.
That is a good suggestion though, but I'm not sure I'd be able to make any wind-up keys that small, so for now, I'll stick with my current plan.
