And Now ... Dark Angels Rumors
Well, this is an interesting change of pace. From Blood of Kittens:
From Faeit212 on Jan 30:If you had asked me two or three months ago, I would have told you that I 100% believed that Tau would be before 6th edition.
That obviously isn’t happening now.
Then I resigned myself to looking at Black Templars, because they appeared to be next…
I don’t think that’s happening either.
What do we have next?
DARK FUCKING ANGELS!
YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you have followed this blog for any amount of time, you know I have a DA successor chapter called the Angels of Perdition that is probably my best painted army. I have played Dark Angels since Rogue Trader days, and have been getting screwed by their rules since 3rd edition with the stupid “stubborn rule”. Then they got that 4th edition book by Jervis (love ya brother, but stay away from the codex’s).
Impressively, as someone on warseer posted, Dark Angels are so secretive, they have sneaked in their release order (and shot the Black Templars… which they do in the background).
But now! We’re in the boxed set (100% confirmed) and we’re likely to get the new codex in April-May… Hell Yea! What could be in the boxed set?! Terminators in robes… marines in robes… a dreadnought in a dress? And chaos as well? I’m going to buy 2x of that boxed set, you can bet your ass!
And from Faeit212 on Jan 31:I don't know if the spine images are anything to do with DA, 6th starter or the 25th year of 40k but I do know that most of the stuff posted is correct. 6th starter does indeed feature DA and the forces of chaos, including a nice plastic chaos dread.
Starter Set includes Dark Angels vs. Chaos. Chaos includes CSM, some traitor guard/cultists and a CSM deadnought
I am only confirming the starter as DA vs chaos NOT the DA & CSM codex release dates. The next 40k releases are :- 'nids, SW, necrons (all models only no codex)
Dark Angels..... Well, I could see them being released in April. The only evidence though is the spine of White Dwarf, BoK's rumors, Dark Angels probably being in the starter set, and the Land Ares construction article being removed from the GW website. We have had no other rumors about specific units in this codex. If Hastings says it is Dark angels V's Chaos you can be pretty sure it is.

Color me skeptical. It'd be very nice, though!
Edit: Though I'll be very angry if we get used as a testbed for C:SM again.
Dr. Manfredel is wrong. That kind of thinking is never justified.

Is that blurp supposed to be about the Land Raider Ares being taken off?
Potential new Land raider box set?
Ares and what? You know they won't make it a single build kit. They would make it a multiple build like the Redeemer and Crusader.
Kinda suck for those that butchered a vindicator and land raider to build one though....
But really cool if we could field them in regular 40K!
Although I deserve it for failing the challenge.... I hate you Shaun...
To make it worse, my wife laughs at me every time she sees it.

I have always loved the look of DA. My earliest impressions of Warhammer were space marines in robes.
The codex never excited me much... but after reading several of the books and getting more of the back story... I can see picking up a box set to make a small force eventually.
If this turns out to be true I would not be disappointed.
Except that this rumor is over a year old at this point... I wonder if we were steered towards tau, BT and such to take attention away from the DA release?
Or is GW just going to give them the WD/FC treatment and update something else..?
I suppose we wait a month to see what March will bring.

There was allot of talk about : Tau, BT and chaos, DA wasn't really around much. Suddenly we see a robe and half a space marine on the white dwarf and all the rumour mongers are screeming they knew it all allong. Like i said before, i'll believe it when i see it.
There is no peace among the stars, only an eternity of slaughter and the laughter of thirsting gods.

Tau need updating more than Dark Angels do. I'm not convinced that DA are in sight yet. The rumour engine has been far too quiet for that to be the case.

You can blame lotr for that one then.
Templars need it more, the DA Codex (aka, Codex Deathwing) is fine. All that'll end up happening is it won't be quite what many expected, certain things will be more expensive and BOLS will break it within about two seconds. So, standard MEQ Codex then. [/cynic] At least DA don't have to buy their grenades. Shonky squad organisation aside, they're not too bad all in all I think. Just lacking a little when compared to other Codices in terms of things like Sternguard etc and certain options.
Starter box sounds pretty sweet though.
This week I am good-naturedly shaking my fist at: Baragash. For being unreasonably reasonable.

It'll be alright on the Knight - a slow refreshing of my original Grey Knight army.

if the starter box has a mix of chaos space marines and TRAITOR GUARD i will be very happy indeed, all my FW buddies will love some plastic re-enforcements.
the rumour mill is pretty dry these days, Black Library put up a pic of a Black Templar and suddenly it is them to be released next in feb! then people looking at the spine of the WD's thing perhaps Dark Angels are next but....(hmmm) their is nothing to say the WD spine will not have all sorts of different space marines standing next to each other.
I guess i will just wait and see what happens.

I'm calling it now; No.
Don't get me wrong, I don't care either way what's next. I have no interest in Black Templars, Tau or Dark Angels (well a little for Dark Angels and Tau, but not enough to collect them). However so late in the game from such little evidence, I'm calling this just another GW bluff to send the rumormongers off course. It was 100% Tau, then it was 100% Black Templars, then it was 50% Tau/50% Black Templars, now it's 100% Dark Angels? Really guys, just stop pretending you know what GW's next move is. No-one does. All we know about GWs release schedule is there'll be something big later this year, likely 6th Edition, because it's the 25th Anniversary. That's it.

Don't forget we had the rumors last year of multiple starter boxes... one Imperial and one non-xeno, non-Imperial box. As I recall it was DA and CSM that were highly speculated at the time... something akin to a Battleforce box with rule book, templates and FC character.
It would be a shame to see a new Dark Angel codex wasted by making it just a slight variation from basic codex marines. I would like to see some of their backstory brought into the new book... they should be knights, as well as space marines.
It will be a shame if all we see is vanillarines who can take lots of bikes and terminators...
... assuming we see new DA at all

It's not inconceivable though. It's a matter of deduction, especially if the pattern is stuck to. It'll be one or the other, but thankfully they're distinct enough to not be a copy/paste/edit books.

We can hope... IMO the Blood Angels book is about as close to codex astartes as you can be and still have an interesting variation.
Otherwise you're down to nothing but IC's and character unlocks or combos.
Think about how cool SW and GK are... due in no small part to just how far they drifted from the prescribed format. I would prefer to see DA more along those lines. Skip standard Terminator load outs, Sternguard, jump packs, etc.
GK showed us that you can stick a power weapon and storm bolter in everybody's hands... why not have Knight units with power swords and combat shields all around in Elite? Something like that instead that gives them their own flavor, and not just a saltier tasting Ultramarine.

Their Vets nearly can - but they can only get the Storm Shields or Combat Shields en-mass but no power weapons. If you want a hard hitting CC unit though - Deathwing.

The fact that only 1/3 of the codex is actually playable demonstrates to me that Dark Angels do need an update. A Greenwing list is terrible and has no benefits in not playing the regular C:SM, not even extra flavor of any sort. In fact, you can get better Dark Angels flavor out of C:SM. As for Ravenwing, they're 8 points more than a regular biker with Fearless (not a good thing) and Scout (not worth 8 points+lack of combat tactics). Honestly, Dark Angels players want to play more than Deathwing and have it still be Dark Angels.
You can equip veterans with as man power swords as you want. The FAQ removed the 3 marines clause. It's prohibitively expensive, however. Instead, you build a mixed squad with some bare bodies for cannon fodder. And add combi-meltas.
Dr. Manfredel is wrong. That kind of thinking is never justified.
