Is the new Necron Battleforce a good place to start ?

Title says it all really. I have zero minis and not a truckload of cash to invest - got the Dex though. Any tips and hints as how to start my own little universal conquest ?

Even if you somehow know of a place that sells the old one, I wouldn't recommend getting it. I thought it used to be a pretty good deal before the update, (giving you your essential warriors and destroyers) but now destroyers aren't as good as they used to be and honestly the models of them aren't very cool. These days you don't really see a whole lot of people fielding destroyers anymore (now that they're out with so much cool stuff) and I have three of them just gathering dust on my desk.

    Imperial Guard: 3700pts Necrons: 2500pts (1915pts painted)

That battleforce certainly looks real, and is also the first I've heard of it.

If it is real, it's worth depends entirely on it's price. That's about £70 worth of models if bought individually, so providing they sell it for about £50 it's good, £60 less so, and £70 you may as well just start your army the way you want to. Regardless of price though, it's pretty much the basis of my 1,000pt army. Add another 5 Immortals, Annihilation Barge with it's Overlord model, and a second Ghost Ark, and you've got the 1,000pts sitting on my display board right this minute.

    Dark Eldar
    Death Guard
    Nurgle Daemons

It's in the current White Dwarf. £65 + HQ = instant army. Two = even better army. It's a great box. Take note Imperial Guard ...

To buy all that singly from the standard boxes would run to £92.50 (12 Warriors per box, 20 in this so two of those = £42, Ghost Ark = £31 & Immortals = £20.50). So yes, great value.

This week I am good-naturedly shaking my fist at: Baragash. For being unreasonably reasonable.
    Sex, drugs and pointy ears.
Cheaphammer 40p: 2000 points of Marines as cheap as possible.
It'll be alright on the Knight - a slow refreshing of my original Grey Knight army.
Cordova: In my head you're eight foot tall, always carry an officer's sabre, and speak like Theoden at the battle of Pelennor Fields.

Grey Knights don't go to heaven: they go to hell and regroup.

That is good value - a shame then I already have LOADS of warriors and scarabs.

GW's battleforces (the recent ones) seem to be getting much better value and offer the core models you would want. Lets hope this trend continues.

if you are starting necrons get the battleforce and one barge and you should have a great selection for 750 point games.

A little surprised it doesnt contain an HQ character, but then yes, its great value as it is.
All the units contained are pretty core to the necron codex and you wont go far wrong fielding them.

Check out the other Necron threads - lots of good ideas for army lists in there, see what takes your fancy and build toward it.

I remember when Battle Forces had a character you could only get in the battle force, like the original tattered robes necron lord. He still goes for 30+ dollars on ebay.

I too have started taking on Necrons as my first 40k army.
I was just wondering where is the battleforce available for preorder and is it available to the US? As this product seems to have the most value for the money and would defintely get my army on the move.

You could actually buy this guy separately but it was hard to find on the website. I've got one in the blister pack still and if it's worth that I may consider selling it!
