HELP! How do i combat my friends tau

hi,
please can you help me, i need help to combat my friends tau. he keeps his battlesuits
, hammerhead, firewariers back and then outflanks his stealth suits and commarnder with a couple of battlesuit bodyguards. i know that the best bet is to get into close combat with him but i can never get into it as he always kills my guys first. pease help.

Tacticals in rhinos speed up the centre. keep away from the sides...stay in the middle as much as you can. it means he needs to go much further to get in range. Heavy Bolters and assault cannons are your friends because of that crutial AP of 4. The S6 rending can take out the hammerheads. Sternguard are also very good here as they have a special type of ammo thats got longer range and AP4. Consider a squad of sternguard with combi meltas drop podding next to a hammerhead, blowing it up and then raining AP4 on the firewarriors in the next turn...just from the top of my head.

My husband has had good luck too with the occasional hunter-killer missile on his rhino and/or whirlwind because of the unlimited range it possesses. I've seen him take out the other guy's vehicle that is sitting way out of range of everything else on a diagonal on turn one. Also, I think that Pwner's advice on this is good. Dropping stuff in essentially what is a shooting army's face is usually a good thing. Also, an assault marine sergeant with a well-placed melta bomb can also do a number on a hapless vehicle.

A cyclone missile launcher on the terminator squad can be useful. The terminators, being relentless, came fire and move and fire its heavy weapon and being Heavy 2, you get two chances with a krak missile of doing something at 48" range to a vehicle. And as a small added benefit the "terminator can fire his cyclone missile launcher in addition to his storm bolter" (p. Marine Codex, p. 64) so if you use it against infantry or a light skinned vehicle the missile guy can usefully fire his storm bolter (glancing AV 10 on a six) at the same target as well, unless I'm somehow reading the codex incorrectly.

Ah good. It would break my husband's heart if he suddenly couldn't fire his storm bolter and CML in the same turn. I'm usually the one who is on the other end of that, but I like to see him happy and having fun.
