    What next for my army.

    Hi all,
So face for my necrons i have,
    About 70 warriors
    11 Destroyers
A destroyer lord, a normal lord
    2 Monoliths
    And 24 scarab swarms,

This was perfect for the 4th ed codex but the time has come to spend some more dosh, im thinking of getting 2 Annihlation barges and then maybe the special character overlord which can give units specific abilities.

Any thoughts, i onlyt have about £40-50 to spend?

    Thanks!

It's definitely a good idea to get the annihilation barge. (only 90 pts) Other than that, it depends on what army you're looking for.

I don't field much of a cc necron force, but what I've heard from the forums you'll want to be sure to get lychguard, wraiths, and spiders. Because you have so many scarabs you could get three spiders and this way you can spawn out scarabs like there's no tomorrow!

If you want a shooty army be sure to get some immortals. The good thing about immortals is you equip them with tesla carbines and it adds range to your army. (especially since the majority of necron units have a maximum range of 24'') If you give them a res orb they also become a very durable squad. In addition to immortals I also recommend a doomsday ark for additional long-ranged firepower.

All in all, you'll need to get plenty of res orbs to help keep your squads alive. A-barges are a must-have, and I always find myself using immortals and lychguards no matter what the scenario.

I was looking at just slowly building my collection, so over time i can field many different armies.
I am definately looking into lychguard and may ask a friend if i can proxy some in out next game, Yep A- barges are bargains imo, my plan was to use Nemessor zandrekh to give one tank hunters then use it to pop light armor, AV12 ish. Problem is that if i face some high AV then i will have to rely on glancing then charging in with scarabs.
I have drafted up a 1500 point list which looks something like this.

    Nemesor Zahnrekh – 185
    Overlord: - 170
    • Phaeron
    • Mindshakle scarabs
    • Sept Weave
    • Res Orb
    Troops = 526
    Necron warriors x 20 = 260
    Necron warriors x5 = 65
    Necron warriors x5 = 65
    Immortals x 8 = 136
    Fast Attack = 300
    Scarabs x 8 = 120
    Scarabs x 8 = 120
    Heavy support = 380
    Monolith = 200
    Annihalation barge = 90
    Annihalation barge = 90

    1) I think you miscalculated your fast attack-120 plus 120 equals 240, not 300.

Anyways, I assume your overlord is w/ the immortals?

Also, you want to avoid large groups of warriors b/c even if you go in cc and lose by seven or so, and you fail your LD, you'll most likely be sweep advanced and there goes a good 20 warriors just like that. I suggest you transfer some of your warriors from your 20-man team to your 5-man squads.

Lastly, I see independent characters as a huge waste of points. (unless you're blood angels, of couse ) You have plenty of scarabs to take care of vehicles, so I would use the 185 pts from Zandrek and get some regular lords w/ res orbs. They are essential to all necron armies and You'll be AMAZED at the results. Trust me, seeing the look on your opponent's face after your 170 pt lord or 5 lychguards get back up is priceless.

I had my first proper test game last night and I have to say Tesla Immortals, Resurrection Orbs and Annihilation Barges are worth every penny. I also have to say that so are ANY close combat unit. It's not nice realising you have 0 combat potential.

However Scarabs are not this unit. They're brilliant against vehicles, but against literally anything else they suck big time.

So that's my advice, the list needs some close combat presence...and less Scarabs.

    Necrons
    Dark Eldar
    Death Guard
    Nurgle Daemons
    Traitor Guard

Tesla can be awesome scarabs i tendto try and hijack vehicles with , or suicide them against a multi wound unit , otherwise as you say sucky.

Tesla really is awesome. 10 guys give you 10 shots at 24". Thanks to rolling a couple of 6s, I ended up getting 11-12 hits. Then it's S5 too. I managed to kill 3 Biker Marines just from that one volley, which is more than my Warriors and Ghost Ark Gauss could do.

If I had equipped my Immortals with Gauss, I would get double the shots and some AP...but I was more than 12" away and I'd moved, so in reality I wouldn't have been able to fire at all. Go go Tesla.
