Split assault squad
So I have heard that some people have been taking to having a 10 man tactical squad and then during the game they brake the squad in half so they can split the weapons?
Example, I have a Sm 10 man tactical squad with a flame thrower and missile launcher, then during start of the game I split the squad leaving me with two five man squads one with a flamer thrower and one with a rocket launcher?
This sounds totally out of whack to me but I don't know.

I prefer two separate assault squads, that way you can have two decent close combat weapons/power weapons.

But the rule book doesn't say anything about them still keeping their weapons it just says you can split them into combat squads. Since combat squads dont have the 10 models that are required to field the flamer and rocket launcher how is this possible?

They are still the squad, just they act separately in groups of 5. Otherwise it would be two squads of 4 troops plus a sergeant but combat squads don't have the benefit of having 2 sergeants.

you buy a ten man tac squad , arm them , then split them into 2 5 man groups , each group taking the weapons you decide .
They are still 1 x ten man tac squad and take 1 troop slot .
Imagine you want a razorback with your ten man tac squad , itsa transport but can only cary 6 ,so you combat squad your unit and 5 men get to ride.
Its a special rule for SM,s to make them more flexible ,
