Smile HELP! New Space Marine army- Ultramarines or Salamanders?

    Hiya Guys,
I am an Imperial Guard player and recently decided to build an army thats a bit less squishy, and i cannot decide whether i should go with the Ultramarines or the salamanders as ultramarines are awesome, but the twin-linkage for the salamanders is incrediably tempting.

Thanks Guys, any opinions welcome, and if anyone wants to suggest a completely different chapter i would also be interested.

    Thanks
    ImperialForce

they both use the SM codex ,so you get the same options .
choose a colour scheme and just add what you want ( i dont do either but can still have vulkan as its SM)
actually make your own chapter and colours with their own ideals and charachter

    Yep, same codex... same rules.

You just have to decide if you want to get sick of painting green or get sick of painting blue? I've done a ton of Ultras... that shade of blue gets old real quick.

There is also no reason you can't do both... paint some squads as Salamanders, others as Ultras. Just make up one army list from the codex and then decide which units get which colors.

You can always pretend that your Ultramarine character has the same stats and skills as vulkan

You might also go with a crusade force or campaign force made up of units from several chapters (all from the same codex, of course). Look to the Zeist Campaign for example, where the Ultramarines were backed up by three companies of Knights of the Raven and Tactical Squads from the Night Watch, Halo Dragons, Silver Skulls, Sable Swords, Crimson Fists chapters.

Incorporate your own backstory for the crusade, what force has become such a threat that it could draw together several different Space Marine chapters, and how the ideals and traditions of one chapter might cause friction with members of another chapter. When modeling and painting, create a campaign badge that each model can wear to tie them together on the table, and incorporate that badge into a couple of banners that your army and/or squad leaders can carry.
