Like the models, but the Codex is not very supportive?
Just wondering if anyone is using alternative models for their army? I'd love to see them

For example, someone really likes the SoB, but the Codex is... you know...
So he uses the Grey Knight Codex, counting the Sisters as GK in Power Armour, along with converted female Terminators and Dreadknights.
Perhaps another person loves the Kroots. So he uses the Tyranids Codex to field an all Kroot army, complete with scratchbuilt Kroot Tyrant, accompanied by Krootoxes counting as Tyrant Guard.
Or how about Orks, with whatever Codex they want to loot guns and vehicles from!? Probably IG.
With Guardboyz, Grot Snipers, and Orkified tanks.

I've tooled around with the idea of a Skitarii army using the Tyranids codex, or an all Kroot army using the Dark Eldar codex. Space Marines are obvious because you can use one of seven different codices for a single chapter given a little creative fluff.
In a similar vein, you can even find a shining example in the painting and modeling section of this forum that shows an Imperial Guard army made up of converted Skaven models. Elsewhere on the net you'll find Tyracrons -- hybrid kitbashes of Tyranid and Necron models for use with either codex -- and a very nice Admech army using the Chaos Space Marines codex.

The Tyracrons were impressive untill I saw the General Grievous then I couldnt help but laugh
Loving the Admech though.

I suppose using the SW Codex instead of Chaos doesn't count? Or Blood Angels instead of Chaos? Or standard Marine Codex instead of Chaos? Says everything you need to know about it really.

This week I am good-naturedly shaking my fist at: Baragash. For being unreasonably reasonable.

Cheaphammer 40p: 2000 points of Marines as cheap as possible.
It'll be alright on the Knight - a slow refreshing of my original Grey Knight army.

Adeptus Mechanicus armies are a stapple of the genre. You do not even have a real codex to complaint about, you MUST have your codex of choice to provide the stat line for your models. And talking about models, you do not even have formal models (save the Techpriest of the Guard and some servitors) to base your army. Everything is proxy and modeling.
I am toying with GK codex for a (old dream) Mechanicus Army. The Marine provide stats for your enhanced heavily armed and armoured Skitarii while the Inquisitorial Henchmen provide 9 troop types. Techpriest go for the stat line of Tech Marine or Dreadnought (also usable as major construct). The Nemesis Dreadknight even offer stat line for Knight (as in the Mechanicus novel).
Many folks field a Mechanicus proxy army and I love the fluff associated with their weird looking construct and I like the modeling part of the hobby. However, I never found the codex that would game and fluff an army worth the extravagaza of modeling associated with a Mechanicus proxy army - of course, a hard core modeler would phrase it as a "Codex worthy of my modeling"

A more pertinent question.

When even died-in-the-wool Chaos players say that the Codex is OK, but "boring", you know it's not what it could be.
