New To Forum-Lootas or Burnas?
I'm new to the hobby aswell as this forum and i was just wondering which would benefit my army the most Lootas or Burnas?. So far my army consists of 20 Ork Boyz, 5 Nobz, Warboss, 3 Killa Kanz, 5 lootas or burnas and a battle Wagon and 3 Deafcoptaz and a Big Mek.

Hey, to be honest you kind of need them both in a good rounded army. They kind of do different things. That said, i would go with Lootas first (just me though) as having the shooty element will give you some pretty awesome hits if the dice go your way. It may be the case that your opponent will direct all their fire at them, which is ok, while they are doing that they are not shooting at the boyz running across the table towards them.
Burnas are good because they auto-hit with that blow tourch, but they are pretty cc based. I would go Lootas first then Burna's, but saying that i would get another box or two (as 10 is better than 5 for both units) and have both!

Ya, I have had way better luck with my lootas, but a squad of burnas in a battle wagon can be great fun! Also note that if you buy 2 boxes of lootas/burnas and 1 box of boyz, you will have enough stuff to build 8 lootas 8 burnas, and 2 big meks.... and a nob or a boy or something
left over from the boyz squad.....

I'm new(ish) and I'm finding Burnas are rubbish unless you have a trukk or wagon with them, the reason why I say this is because every time I've played Burnas they get cut down before I can get them to the fight.
Lootas are great, they create a diversion, every play I've played always go for the Lootas first, so you can move your other boys forwards. You get to throw a D3 so when you get a 5 or 6 you get 3 shots per boy in a group of 15 that's lethal even against light armoured vehicles.
I would suggest playing either 15 boys in a unit under 4+ cover otherwise you'll end up with a moral test if your unlucky or two lots of 7 so one unit can run the other can shoot ("cover fire").
Also I use lootas as flash gitz, a few guns are painted gold and on one I have the deffgun arm on and a nobz "shaky fist" on the other

you do realise you can build both the lootas and the burnas from the box, if you have a few boys bodies to put them on. That is probably the best option with what you have. (the better option is to buy another box of boys, and another lootas and burnas box, have 8 of each, a couple of meks (which you could kitbash to a big mek). 8 burnas plus a mek or two in a battle waggon is a decent threat, your lootas are a reasonable threat, and your coptas are the initial distraction.

Burnas are fun when you're running a Dreadbash army full of Killa Kanz and Deff Dreads. Walk a mob of Burnas with a couple Mek Boyz behind your walkers to make repair rolls when necessary, and the badass-looking walkers will usually keep enemy fire away from the Burna Boyz.
One thing I've seen a lot with Lootas is people parking them in one spot and not moving them for any reason the whole game. If your Lootas don't have a shot, don't be afraid to move them into a better position for the next turn. Also remember that they are Orks, with the same assault potential in close combat as any other Ork Boy.

For me personally, i just have one Mek per unit. I tend to have smaller units of Burnas, partially for the reasons above...putting them in a trukk etc. So the mek comes in handy for fixing the vehicle (well, on a good day). Because i have larger units of Lootas, they have a mek but my ratio of mek to lootas is less (more lootas one mek/ less burnas more meks) thats me.

Good Advice SourImp - too many players feel scared of moving their Lootas around. Lootas are maybe the most powerful choice in the ork dex along with Kans, and they can really spell death and destruction if used wisely.
Burnas are also good but IMO more limited and rely on transports to be effective. But as said above, use some left over boys torsos and legs and build Burnas from those.

I'd take 0 meks with my burnas when they're assembled.
10 burnas in a looted wagon with a skorcha accompanied by a big mek with KFF and burna. Hard to kill and when you get in range, place one template, count number of enemies underneath it, multiply by 11, that's how many the occupants hit. It's an awesome anti-horde tactic.

10 is more than enough. The points of the 11th can help out something else, unless you're really stuck for it.

Its just depend how you use them. At my gaming club i was told i was the only ork player they saw that wasn t using any loota.
And i m at probably 15 victory , 1 draw (that draw should have been victory but it was late and had to go so I forgot to move, the other guy had like 2 unit left on the table and i still had 5 kan , 1 squad of 30 boyz , nobz , bigmek , grotz, deftkoptas).
And if i had to use one of them i would go for Burna all the way in a wagon. That what i love about ork their so many way to play them and there a lot of different way to be effective (compare to eldarwhere you only have 1 effective built...).
I think both loota or burna can fit your army and be succesful , its just depend the way you are playing.

It varies for me based on their role and position. A stationary mob of Lootas on the ground has no use for a Mekboy. That same mob using a Battlewagon as a pillbox could benefit from a single Mek to make repair rolls to the vehicle if necessary.
For Burnas, I like to have at least one Mekboy for every vehicle or unit of walkers that will be moving in front of or alongside the mob. In a pure horde army with no vehicles at all, you've got little need to change any of your Lootas or Burna Boyz to a Mek.

If you use only the models that come in a single box of Lootas and Burna Boyz, then yes. You must have the Mek to make it a legal mob of at least five models. Otherwise, upgrading 1-3 of the models to a Mek is completely optional.
