Epic Armageddon and specialists games to return in 2014

    http://natfka.blogspot.com/2013/09/e...28Faeit+212%29

Epic 40k was and is a game that many of us have found memories of playing and loving. Its been years since I have heard of a game of Epic played, and it is one of those game that would be a ton of fun if it returned with support. Today's rumors tackle Epic, giving it a possible release date of July-August of next year.

Now if these specialists games are coming back, my long time favorite would also possibly see a return... Battlefleet Gothic. I would be all over that.

    via Tim the Thief
GW will bring back Specialist Games gradually with beginning in the 3th Quarter 2014.
-First Game will be Epic in July or August 2014
-There will be no individual model Boxes or Blister, only Game Sets and possibly "Expansions"
    -Sets remain permanent in assortment
-Epic Game Set might feature Space Marines vs. Orks, there will be Sets for Imperial Guard, Eldar and Chaos
I for one am absolutely hyped about this, Especially bfg in particular.

I refuse to get my hopes up. Epic was awesome but considering the amount of super Heavies and Titans you can now buy for 40k, I'm not sure there's even a call for this anymore.

Only expansions sounds bad to me. Imagine if 40k worked that way. No clamshells, no boxes - Each army has say, their battleforce, and another box with say, an HQ and a troop and an elite as it's expansion. These are the only ways to buy units. You can only use those contents like that. You now have far less freedom and flexibility in how you buy an organise your units.

In this case, Orks in the starter set. Great. Now I need to fucking buy multiple epic starter sets to play a bigger game, if that's even possible by the rules - it might be as solidly set in stone as dreadfleet, "these are the sides and this is all you get."

I'm happy to see specialist games come back, but I swear Necromunda sold better when I could get the gangers I wanted, instead of the 'gang set of random blokes' they introduced when trying to re-do that a while back.

Having every game on set expansions will be a very bad idea.

could see myself getting in to epic, but only if its done "properly" and not by just releasing models from existing designs as pre-determined sets. A game i really wanna see make a proper return however is Necromunda.

problem here is i would only buy proper GW Necromunda models from the existing designs if they were released properly, which in my opinion is as single models so that we can chose what we want instead of being stuck with pre-designated sets of models. this is because Necromunda is a game where personilation is everything and the betterment of each member of the gang should be visual as well as simply written on a piece of paper.

Of course if there to bring it back, i would really like to see plastic kits with many options so we can personalize properly. Lets be frank, some of the models have aged poorly and need re-designs. then they can "CRAP"caste bounty hunters and such in single model packets.

But for now I'm more than happy to proxy

Devil's Advocate hat on here: re-release it once with much fanfare, create self-contained ruleset and a range of miniatures that does minimal justice to the franchise, ignore for the next 20 years.

They could all be really great to see redone, BFG in particular appeals to me. But we'll see. If anyone wants Necronmunda, I'd suggest trying Infinity: it's what Necromunda wants to be when it grows up.

Gorkamorka would be awesome, but we all know it's the red haired, freckled step-child that GW likes to pretend never happened. Out of all of the games which didn't do as great as their primary ones... It made the least profit and had the biggest cost sink, from what I recall.

Until then, however - there is a small community on TUGS that still plays. There is a UK weekender coming up, Nov 30 - Dec 1 at WHW.
I would LOVE to play me some GoMo. But I reckon they'd re-do EVERYTHING ELSE first. Including Man o' War.

In recent memory, it's hard to beat the fud that was Dreadfleet however. Which is a shame, as if they'd took that on and created a whole new game from it a-la Man O' War (but better) then it would have been a winner. But they didn't.

Except...it would no longer have been dreadfleet. I think dreadfleet shines in that it is just what it is: a versus game out of the box. Would it just be: Ok here's my skaven fleet vs your elves?

3 of the exact same elf ships, then one slightly bigger version?

Dreadfleet was great in that it had character, which I think would be missing in any sort of BFG changes to fleet on fleet violence

Personally, I'd like them to revisit Mordheim. Actually, A general re-write of the skirmish rules they used to produce would be nice as well.

The great thing about a mordheim relaunch would be that they wouldn't have to release much stuff. Like for vampires, it was one vampire, up to three 'thralls' and then zombies. Could be a good time to splash release a new zombie box for fantasy and release several 'character and heroes' sprues for turning existing miniature lines into your characterful gang.

That's what makes a release rather unlikely. The fact that almost every model would come from existing ranges means that they wouldn't make a lot of capital on miniature sales, and relying entirely on rulebook sales isn't really the best idea for a specialist system that would only really appeal to a percentage of their playerbase.

I'd love to see a Necromunda reboot too.

Way back when, years ago, I was just getting into painting and went to the local games shop for something 'big' to get started on. The guy there pointed out the WArhammer and 40K boxed sets (the ooold ones. space marines and orks/gretichin; high elves and orcs) and they did not really jump out at me. Then I saw Necromunda and was hooked..the models were great, the setting, and all those neat card buildings.
Obviously there is all the Cities of Death buildings now..but I still have those card buildings, and they are just fine. It was such a flexible game too..anything from 40K just slotted in with a bit of background.
If they redid all the gangs as boxed plastic sets..arm and weapon options etc, poseable..yes please.

I liked Gorkamorka too..it was a nice, more lighthearted and funny game, compared to others, and always a good laugh.

yeah I refuse to buy into those games, though I bought Dreadfleet because I had friends who were interested. I passed on Space Hulk, at the time the local GW is where I really only played and since they said once its gone you can't play it here I told them I wouldn't ever waste money on something so useless (can't play anywhere else- it would just sat in my closet)
board games are nice but I can't just grab every one that GW tries to convince me is a good thing.
