Heh Heh, and yet it was deemed usefull enough to become a sticky by the almighty and depraved inquisition!
Anyway, thanks for posting this LoT/Coldfire, but I dont think you are right in saying that it displays every planet/system in the galaxy... are you?
Who needs sanity when you have insanity? It's so much more fun. Trust me, I know.

Re: 40k Starmap
very cool, but what is up with Dolumar? (x=1063 y=822) How did the tau make it that far from their empire w/o warp tech?
Purging literary corectness since 1982.

Mars is mentioned in the mouse-over description for Holy Terra, which is dead center of the map.Originally Posted by kaileyrose

Re: 40k Starmap
all the planets?
I refuse to believe this is all the planets where the billions upon billions of humans come from.
I mean, yes every planet can be host to so many, but still.
The fluff always talks about the massive amounts of planets under imperial control not a couple hundred if that shown on the map.

Re: 40k Starmap
Counted about 114 Imperial planets on the map. That certainly seems like a pretty massive amount to me, considering you're talking about planets.Originally Posted by smacky
"Billions upon billions of humans"? There's six billion humans on Earth at the moment. Some censuses predict that that number will rise to nine billion by 2040. Even if the Imperium only is in control of one hundred planets, consider one hundred planets multiplied by nine billion people per planet, you're talking 900 billion people under Imperial rule. So, seems pretty easy to believe that all the "billions upon billions of humans" in the Imperium could come from just one hundred planets.

Re: 40k Starmap
Uh, no. The lowest fluff number we have for the Imperium's size is 1 million worlds. Other sources such as DH, IIRC, put it up around 10 million worlds or more. Settled worlds. Also, thinking that 900 Billion people could possibly make up the population of the Imperium is quite moronic. The IG alone has trillions of soldiers in its many battalions. Some estimates put the size of the Imperium's population at 500 plus trillion. It sounds like you don't quite comphrehend the size of the Imperium, Eater.
Also, as a note, the rulebooks refer to thousands of worlds being lost in clerical errors.
Dr. Manfredel is wrong. That kind of thinking is never justified.

Re: 40k Starmap
That map is definitely just listing the more well-known and strategically-vital planets (aka GW doesn't have enough staff required to make millions of planets)Originally Posted by smacky

Re: 40k Starmap
Page 5, new SM codex:
Emphasis mine. Each [Space Marine] is but one brother in a Chapter of a thousand warriors. [...] There are only a thousand such Chapters spanning the galaxy, one thousand fortress-monasteries on scattered worlds, standing as bastions throughout the Imperium of Man. There is thus one Space Marine for each of the million worlds in the Imperium...
That means there are 1,000 x 1,000 x 1,000,000 worlds in the Imperium. Or 1,000,000,000,000 worlds. 1 quadrillion worlds. 114 on the map? Not even close.
2,750 Codex Marines (Deepstrike themed army)
2,250 Deathwing
~2,000 Black Templar (mech)
~1,850 Spacewolves (footslog)
~1,650 Tyranid
