Somewhere there was a drunken archer happily sleeping, snuggled against a deep wolf with a fluffy red and white hat placed between its ears.

Lost the original update...so here we go with whatever hot newness drips from the fingertips of a bored insomniac god-thing.

For three days you have stayed at the Wayside Inn. You had first arrived at the more lavish Roxanne's House of Respite, but their hourly rates would have drained your coin purse far too quickly. The Wayside Inn was a humble establishment filled with travelers and the common folk from the area. A modest tavern seemed to comfort those who spent long hours in the field or worried of war. On the second night, a traveling minstrel livened up the place with a musical set that would have been welcome even in Anteria's Guild Hall.

For three days you listened to the patronage's stories and wandered into the surrounding hills to see if you could collaborate any of the rumors.

Some say the great red wyrm was a tyrant who flooded the valley with fire, all the while, sealing a great wealth inside some unexplored peak. Others say the dragon was merely the tool of a terrible king who once ruled the land with an iron fist. Others talk of a rider who tamed the dragon, and together they freed the land from evil. But others are not convinced such a creature ever existed.

So you search. And you search. And you find nothing.

Returning to the Wayside, you order a small dinner and sit in the corner debating your next move. The minstrel is singing some ballad about a farm lass and the soldier who left her behind for the war. And at first you are not listening, at most it would perhaps remind you of what you yourself left behind. But then you hear the chorus for the the 3rd time. This time you actually hear it, though it is in a more archaic tongue that sounds much better before you translate it as you were taught as a squire.

"Under the watchful eye of the Grandmother, Past the golden path of the sun, beyond the dragon's reach, I will come back home to you."

The Grandmother is what the locals seemed to call the tall snowcapped peak that loomed over the valley. The golden path of the sun perhaps meant the way the stone paths looked in the early light. And the dragon? Perhaps that was the actual dragon. When the minstrel finishes, you go up and ask him how old the song is. He tells you that it is older than the settlements of the valley, when the kingdom had a different name.

And so you plan. You will set out before dawn, eager to catch the sunrise on the craggy face of the old woman. Perhaps then she will share her secrets.

    **************

The chill air whips around you, but even now you can see the faint light rising along the neighboring hills. Soon it will crest this portion of the mountain where the pass travels right below the Grandmother. And then your world is bathed in golden light. The snow and the rocks and the sun beam all around you, as if a stairwell to the gods lies before you. You begin forward as soon as your eyes recover from the dazzling light. Bu not more than a hundred feet up this easily missed path, you find your way blocked by a decades old landslide.

You see two options before you. Continue forward along what appears to be a rather treacherous path with steep cliffs and even steeper falls. Or find a way here from the other side of the mountain after traveling through to Kassan.

    Skills: Magic +1

Your best options for finding something not on the board are in crafting items for those who cannot craft them or cannot obtain the materials.

-Lower Rank Hunters need weapons, gear, magic items
-Members of the Mage's Guidl need wands and staves and special ingredients that are too dangerous for them to obtain.
-Artisans need materials or even tools

But for fame and fortune via hunting, re-check the board

You are able to wrangle the barrel to shore, exhausting most of your strength for the time in doing so. The smashed end of the barrel allows you a look inside. You see thick straw, matted now with wet and debris from the river. something glints back at you as the light catches it.

You enter the cavern again. It is dusty and the smell of machinery oil and smoke hangs in the air. No longer hanging in the air are stalactites, having all crashed to the ground among the stalagmites. The landscape is changed even from when you were in the destruction previously.

There is an eerie quiet now. No longer do you here the drips of water that built the cave echo through it. No longer do you hear the scraping of metal on stone.

You drink among the other hunters. The room is mostly full of Class 1 and 2, but there are a fair few other Class 3. You even spot some Class 4 Hunters. It seems that most talk around the place is of the Titan, rumors from the west, news from the Eastern Continent (including the return of Gnassus), and the upcoming Golem Wars competitions.

Sipping at her drink, Rin'vec thought about the desperate state of her financial situation at the moment and went to take a look at the board. She eventually took off the flier for the Cockatrice and brought it to some of the guild's officials. "Excuse me please, do you have any advice for hunting a cockatrice? I'm kind of hoping they can't actually turn people to stone, but if they do is there some way to get around that?"

-Gather information about how to hunt a cockatrice. I wish mainly to know if they actually have a death stare effect and how to protect against it, but any information is useful. Maybe ask around for what would work best as bait.
-That skill bonus is technically awesome. The best kind of awesome.
-Also yay! I'm a class 3! Whatever that does for me!

Impressed with having pulled it to shore, Shahira sits on the rocks for a moment once ensuring the barrels are secure and not going anywhere. Curiosity peaks at what is inside that must be so important, but knowing it will cause naught but trouble, she pushes it back down.

After resting a bit, she takes her rope and fashions it around the barrels in such a way that she can carry one on her back, while rolling the other one (which is still sealed?) along in front of her.

-Rest a bit, then lug the barrels back to the cliff and send them up.

I guess the only option is to push forwards and look for more traps.

Proceed forward, stopping at random intervals to try and catch the bot out if it is trying to move when we do to mask sound.

Hexor checks the bounty boards for new jobs and smiles when he sees the Cockatrice bounty knowing completing it will help n him make a name for himself. After taking the job he rounds up a posse to go out after the beast, ensures he has all the right equipment for the task at had, and heads out.

    - take Cockatrice bounty
    - hire a magus (2200n), a medic (500n), an archer (500n), and a soldier (500n).
-head out in search of the beast
    - eat cake

Perusal: 94, It seems pretty much everyone just knows rumors or wants to talk about your exploits, it is nearly impossible to get real information.

[You two have the option of bumping into each other. Scythes, you would know of Rin'vec as she's one of the most famous Class 3 hunters. SGS, you would MAYBE know Hexor, but you are also friendly and maybe hungover enough to talk to anyone...plus he is eating cake. You can decide if you want to pair up, at which point Scythes could reconsider at least the archer portion of his hires, thus I will hold off charging for any mercs. Please repost which you want to hire if any, when you decide what you are doing]

    This all goes reasonably well.

At the top of the ledge you see the engineers pack everything into a very heavy carriage plated with thick steel and reinforced wheels. The final barrel is put in place, two guards step inside and the heavy vault-like door shuts, no controls to open it on the outside. The warhorses with their thick armor start moving forward.

You give the area a wide berth. After another few days of travel you realize you have a choice to turn in towards the Oasis or to continue on to the nearest town in Ossun.

Your mercenary pal stops short and just nods forward. Ahead there is a tight tunnel leading down. You will maybe be able to walk two abreast for much of the tunnel, but there is not enough room to raise your hands fully above your head. The tunnel seems to continue for at least as far as your torch reaches.

IF you're going up the mountain through the old landslide, Palpy cannot continue, as it will require hands and such.

Kash will take some time to examine and assess the tunnel:

Looking to determine if it is natural or artificial, and how old. If it is newly made by the machine, it's far too big for its current form suggesting it wants a confrontation. If it is older, could be worth exploring if we survive. Is there any rubble on the floor? If the ground is relatively clean, the bot could be using the rock (including ones it dragged in from outside) for traps, perhaps fuel, or a more personal purpose. All of this Kash verbalises to his companions as he runs his hands over the tunneled stone.

If Torbac is good, proceed on point as bait (I can do little but shoot General 40 with magic burned out) down the tunnel. Again, mindful of the ceiling too.

    -assess tunnel
-proceed on point, black iron rifle prepped.

(Arch, does Kash think he can shoot and reload ok with his botched hand or reloading a problem too? Will ready both rifles now if so, steel rifle loaded but shouldered, black iron in hand).

To the town! Ask first about the bounty and let them know why i've traveled all this way. If they know anything, ask for more specifics, where, what, witnesses?

No matter the ending, pay generously for a room and some food and leave super early in the morning towards the Oasis unless other issues (sidequests) or perhaps preparations need to be made

The hunter sees cake, the perfect cure for a slight hangover, and approaches in near silence directly behind Hexor.

"I must have cake. Where'd you get it?"

@scythes I'm good with picking a different bounty if you were needing this one for the cash.

it's just a dex penalty, not a crippling thing. So a bit slower, a bit higher chance to drop the ammo instead of loading. Basically success, fail, and crit thresholds have changed.
