You wait nearly an hour, watching and learning the patrols movements. You don't see anyone patrolling the roof itself, nor does it seem anyone uses the windows to view outwards - aside from whoever is in the room you watch.

As the two guards out front begin to turn the corner of the garrison, you slither down the side of the inn, sticking to the shadows and making as little noise as possible. You count to five silently and then dart across the street, reaching the gate and going over it into the bushes beyond as the next two guards come into view. You hold your breath, hoping they remain oblivious.

It seems your luck holds out as they continue on past. You wait for them to be halfway to the corner before sprinting quietly up to the garrison, and begin climbing the wall. Hand holds present themselves naturally, as if they were crafted just for you.

As you climb, you notice a shape in the window again, but are unphased by it as you continue up. You reach the top without any faults, and seem to be unnoticed by anyone.

On the roof is a single latch, clearly for a hidden door.

Listen for movement through the door. If movement, do nothing and wait. If no movement, unsling crossbow and head inside, looking for signs of the officer.

You listen intently but do not hear anything on the other side of the door. You attempt opening it, but it simply rattles slightly and refuses to budge.
